Optrex Infected Eye Drops are medicated to provide relief for sore, irritated eyes. The formulation helps to soothe and cleanse your eyes.

Optrex is specially formulated for treating acute bacterial conjunctivitis.

How do Chloramphenicol Eye Drops Work?

Optrex Infected Eye Drops contain Chloramphenicol as an active ingredient, which is an antibiotic. It works by stopping bacteria from growing, eliminating bacterial eye infections.

Chloramphenicol eye drops such as Optrex can be purchased over-the-counter without a doctor’s referral.

Uses / Instructions

Ensure your hands are clean and dry and the bottle’s seal is intact before use. Gently pull the corner of your lower lid down and tilt your head back. Apply 1 or 2 drops into your lower eyelid. You can use the drops as often as you require. Replace the bottle top tightly.

Warnings

Do not use while, or just before, wearing contact lenses. Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.

Side Effects

Stop using the product and seek medical help immediately if you experience:

• allergic reactions such as itching, rashes, fever, swelling, hives, wheezing, difficulty breathing, systemic inflammatory reactions and other.
• changes in blood (anaemia) leading to severe tiredness or easy bruising.

Other side effects may include:

• Discolouration or clouding of the eye surface (cornea) or lens due to the preservative.
• The use of topical chloramphenicol may occasionally result in the overgrowth of other non susceptible organisms including fungi. If any new infection appears during treatment you should tell your doctor.
• blurred vision, eye irritation or mild burning or stinging when you put the drops in.
• irritation of the skin around the eyes, mercurialentis (brown discolouration of the lens) and atypical band keratopathy (appearance of calcium on the cornea). These may be due to the preservative in the drops called phenyl mercuric nitrate.
