Malarone belongs to a group of medicines called antimalarials. It contains two active ingredients, atovaquone and proguanil hydrochloride

Malarone tablets are taken once per day. Treatment starts at short notice (2 days before trip) and stops 1 week after the trip (compared to 4 weeks for other anti-malarials). Malarone is notable for having far fewer side effects than other, older malaria drugs.

To calculate the number of tablets you need please follow the simple equation below to see how many tablets you need to purchase or alternatively email us or contact us via our live chat option to get a colleague to do the calculation for you.

2 + (NUMBER OF DAYS YOU ARE STAYING IN YOUR COUNTRY OF DESTINATION) + 7

Example 1: if you are travelling for 23 days the total number of tablets is calculated as 2 + 23 + 7 = 32

Example 2: if you are travelling for 37 days the total number of tablets is calculated as 2 + 37 + 7 = 46

Description

Malarone has two uses:
▪ to prevent malaria
▪ to treat malaria

How to take Malarone. Malaria is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito, which passes the malaria parasite (Plasmodium falciparum) into the bloodstream. Malarone prevents malaria by killing this parasite. For people who are already infected with malaria, Malarone also kills these parasites.
