Description

Dermol 500 Lotion is useful for dry skin conditions, such as eczema and dermatitis, which get worse when the skin is allowed to dry out.

This antimicrobial emollient and moisturiser are specially formulated to address dry, chapped skin as well as use as a soap substitute. It replaces lost moisture and locks it into the skin.

Used regularly, this lotion can help restore the skin’s smoothness, softness and flexibility by replacing lost moisture and helping the skin retain moisture. This helps reduce scaling, redness and itching.

Dermol 500 Lotion contains four main ingredients:

  • Liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate, both of which have moisturising properties
  • Benzalkonium chloride and chlorhexidine hydrochloride, which are antiseptics

How Does Dermol 500 Lotion Moisturise Your Dry Skin?

Liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate work by replacing lost water within the skin, and by forming a waterproof barrier over the skin surface. This prevents water within the skin from evaporating and keeps the underlying skin hydrated.

Benzalkonium chloride and chlorhexidine hydrochloride have antiseptic properties that help to destroy bacteria on the surface of the skin, which may otherwise infect and aggravate dry skin conditions such as eczema.

What is eczema?

Eczema is a dry skin condition which can make your skin feel dry, irritated, and itchy. Eczema is a common condition, especially in children, and can happen in smaller patches or more widespread areas all over the body. Some of the most common places where people experience eczema include:

  • Hands
  • Inside of elbows
  • Backs of knees
  • Face
  • Scalp

Can I use this lotion if I have sensitive skin?

You can use this product if you have sensitive skin, but you should always test a new skincare product, such as Dermol 500, on a small patch of skin before the first application. This will help you to be sure that this product is safe to use on your skin, and will make you aware of any potential side effects. This kind of testing should also be done before using this product to treat small children or before using on the face.

Uses / Instructions

For application to the skin:

  • Apply the lotion to the affected areas and massage gently into the skin, until absorbed. Repeat as often as required.

For use as a soap substitute:

  • Use as a cleanser in the bath or shower, or for other toiletry purposes, instead of ordinary soap or shower gel.

Warnings

  • For external use only.
  • Do not use if sensitive to any of the ingredients.

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Dermol 500 Lotion can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

If you experience any of the following reactions stop using Dermol 500 Lotion and get urgent medical help:

  • swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat;
  • a sudden uncharacteristic red itchy skin rash (hives) away from the site of application;
  • wheezing or breathing difficulty;
  • feeling faint or dizzy;
  • a strange metallic taste in the mouth;
  • collapse.
  • You may be having a serious allergic reaction.

This product has been specially designed for use on dry or problem skin areas anywhere on the body. Rarely, Dermol 500 Lotion can cause skin reactions on treated areas (involving redness, irritation and/or itching). These very rare skin reactions may become more significant where associated with excessive use as a leave-on application in areas of folded skin such as the groin or in the nappy area.

Active ingredients: Benzalkonium Chloride 0.1%, Chlorhexidine Hydrochloride 0.1%, Liquid Paraffin 2.5%, Isopropyl Myristate 2.5%. Also contains:Cetostearyl Alcohol, Cetomacrogol 1000, Phenoxyethanol, Purified water.
