Description
Coughs can be very confusing but what you might not know is they can be divided into just two types: dry coughs, felt in the throat, and chesty coughs, felt in the lungs. It is not always easy to distinguish a dry cough from a chesty cough and it becomes even more difficult if your cough changes over time.
Dry cough
Dry coughs are caused by an irritation of the upper airways due to foreign particles, dust or a throat infection. This type of cough is non-productive: no mucus or phlegm is produced. A dry cough is also synonymous with a tickly, or irritating cough.
Chesty cough
Chesty coughs are characterised by the formation of mucus or phlegm in the lungs, and are classified as a productive cough. The cough reflex is triggered to help raise the phlegm, in order to clear the lungs. A chesty cough is also known as a mucus or catarrh cough.

Warnings
Consult your doctor before taking Buttercup Bronchostop Cough Syrup if you:
• are prone to develop allergic reactions. There is a possible risk that this medicine may
trigger severe and life-threatening allergic reactions in patients who have a tendency to
develop allergic reactions.
• have asthma, as Buttercup Bronchostop Cough Syrup may make asthma symptoms worse.
Children
Do not give this medicine to children under 12 years.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Side Effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The frequency of the following side effects occurring is not known.
This medicine may cause the following serious allergic reactions. If you experience any of the following effects, stop taking the syrup and seek medical advice immediately:
• severe and potentially life-threatening reactions, with symptoms that may include feeling lightheaded or faint, breathing difficulties or wheezing, a fast heartbeat, skin rash, confusion and anxiety, or loss of consciousness (anaphylactic reaction)
• swelling of the face, lips, tongue, mouth or throat (angioedema),
• blistering of the mouth and throat
• worsening of asthma symptoms
• difficulty breathing (including shortness of breath)
Other possible side effects
If any of the following side effects get serious or concern you, or you notice any other side effect, stop taking the syrup and seek medical advice as soon as possible:
Allergic skin reactions including urticaria (red bumps on the skin), and itching. Gastrointestinal disorders such as pain or discomfort in the abdomen, diarrhoea, vomiting, and nausea.
