Description
Nutmeg is a spice that comes from the seed of the Myristica fragrans tree, an evergreen tree native to the Spice Islands near Indonesia. Nutmeg has a warm, slightly sweet, and pungent taste, and is used to flavor a variety of foods and beverages, including baked goods, puddings, meats, sauces, and eggnog.
Nutmeg trees take eight years to produce fruit after sowing, and can bear fruit for 60 years or more. They reach their prime at around 25 years old.
